My Most Popular Posts

I had an idea for another blog post when I thought I would check which of my now over 125 English blog posts (this is number 126 to be exact) that has been visited the most. Looking through Google Analytics told me that the most visited pages were, of course, my main page StefanTell.se followed by the start pages of my Swedish blog and English blog respectively.

After that, some category pages (portrait photography, authour portraits etc) from my portfolio and blog got high placings, but finally I found a real post, and it was maybe not that surprising.

One Light Studio Portrait Setup

Of over 1.000.000 page views (1.097.658 to be exact at this very second), this one has been viewed 10.454 times (less than 1% of the total of everything). Not much at all, compared to everything else on my domain.

It is of course hard to compare old and new blog posts, this one has been up for over two years, soon three. So it has had a long time to accumulate visitors and all that. The topic is also a factor, a lot of people are interested in simple lighting setups that can be achieved with just a little lighting equipment. Less is more, and all that.

Clothing Photography – Step by step

This one has been viewed a little less than number one, just 9.331 times. It got a lot of visitors from the Profoto blog, when they featured this post, and it is also over two years old. Again, advantage of age.

Product photography, pills

Post number three is another that Profoto has shown on their blog, also a step-by-step guide to a product photography job I did in 2010 too.

Maybe it is the links from Profoto, or the a little to SEO-flirting title of the post, but I tend to think that many likes posts that are written in form a guide. Or just that my visitors likes pills?

Number 4, Amigurumi product photography

This one is even older than the previous posts on this list. In 2009 I wrote about when I helped some friends with nice table top photos of their knitted and stuffed toys. It is a very popular hobby for many, so I guess the popularity might come from that.

Next in the list comes Basic Portrait Lighting, Beauty Dish and then 2-light beauty portrait setup followed by Female Model Portrait & Setup (photo above, and also featured on the Profoto blog).

Writing this, I see that I tend to write the titles like chapter titles in a book on lighting, which this blog is, in many ways. Works well for SEO of course, and makes it easy to find for my visitors.

What is the meaning of this post, you might wonder? I don’t know, really. It was just interesting to see which the most popular posts were.

I should try to calculate numbers of page views compared to number of days a blog post has been published, but there might be a plugin for that? Without a comparison like that, this list will probably look about the same a year on from now as well. The Long Tail will see to that.
